Stilt Nesting 2013 : During the first week of April, 2013 a pair of Black Necked Stilts began selecting a nesting site, building their nest and hatching their brood of four chicks. This gallery shows the cycle. The male and female can be identified by their coloring. The male has a completely black back while the female has a light brown coloring on her back. I will be adding more photos as the chicks mature. Stilts have the second longest legs in the bird kingdom when body size is considered. The only bird with longer legs is the flamingo. Stilt chicks are considered to be Precocial which means that as soon as they are born they can walk and feed themselves.

Blowing Rocks Preserve : Blowing Rocks Preserve is located on Jupiter Island in Jupiter, Florida. The beach front harbors the largest outcropping of Anastasia limestone on the Atlantic Coast of the United States. Waves rolling in from the Atlantic (particularly in stormy weather) will send fountains of water blasting 30-50 feet into the air. The photos in this gallery chronicle my morning at the preserve beginning at 5:00 a.m. to record the sun rising over the ocean through late afternoon. If you love the natural beauty of "old Florida" this preserve is something you have to make time to see for yourself.

Welcome to Reminisces, my photographic journey into America’s wonders.
All my life I have carried on a love affair with the great outdoors. My interest in photography developed as I tried to capture the true images that my mind and heart saw as I traveled to some of America’s most beautiful places. In this day and age of hustle and work I feel we spend to little time appreciating the real treasures that we have. As our population grows we hasten to destroy the natural beauty that exists and that can never be replaced. While the images displayed here are my memories I sincerely hope that those who view them will open their eyes and hearts and help to preserve this beauty before it is gone forever.
